I mean, this here, I mean... wow. Nike's new LeBron James commercial - much in the same vein as the controversial Tiger Woods commercial following his scandal - is pretty much perfect.

There are so many layers to how good this is to LeBron saying, "Hi Chuck" to him speaking directly about ruining his legacy to him saying "Should I be who YOU want me to be?" Obviously it's an advertisement and LeBron is trying to help restore his brand here, but put it this way: Mission Accomplished. It may be an ad, but this is the best post-Decision PR move yet by the LeBron Camp.

It's scripted, yes, but it's candid and LeBron directly tackles all the criticisms he's heard over the last three months. For the first time since July, we get to see the human side to LeBron and a glimpse into the player we all admired so much. Even if a copywriter is the one who chose the words. LeBron still had to say them.

Again, like the Woods commercial, Nike's marketing deparment has taken a unique approach to controversy by capitalizing on it instead of worrying about it ruining their athletes' brands. They embrace the chatter and cash in. It's pretty brilliant, really. Don't run from the noise. Make more of it.

All of this animosity towards James will eventually subside and this commercial is a good start to making it happen. I guess maybe we know why LeBron was taking those mental notes now.

To those people saying the greatest player never left his team he was drafted by...
Did you know Kobe was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets?
I guess that takes Kobe out of the running...

The new LeBron James ad is pretty darn lame

LeBomb,
One thing you should do is stop stealing lines of poetry from  Maya Angelou : "Like air I'll rise"

The greatest players of all time stayed with one team and won their championships with one team.

Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Shaquille O'Neal - 3 centers that won championships with the Lakers. All three are among the best ever at their position and all three started out with another team. Using your theory you are basically screwed if you are drafted by a team like Toronto, LA Clippers, Minnesota

You refer to two Eastern Conerence Finals and one NBA Final game.  Hmm, did he go quietly in those series'. Still did not answer my question - in which of those three series was Lebron playing on the better team? Take a look at the rosters and you will see that the answer is 0. Definitely did not go quiet in the Orlando series - 38.5 points per game - 8.3 rebounds & 8 assists. Last year he averaged 26.8 points - 9.3 rebounds & 7.2 assists against Boston in the Conference Finals.

Would MJ, Kobe, Duncan, Bird, Magic, etc.. have quit like that in a playoff game. I am guessing that I could come up with bad playoff games for all.

Go ahead and defend him.  I am just stating facts.  The guy has shown no heart, is an egomaniac, and can't lead.

I think you should look up the difference between opinion and fact. Most of what you stated - and everything in your last sentence - are opinions.

Great ad for Lebron. Simply put, he did what he felt he needed to do to win a championship. Dont agree with whole ESPN Special he held but the guy was smart enough to know that he was never going to win a championship in Cleveland. End of story.

The new LeBron James ad is pretty darn excellent

Eventually the world will see that the whole problem in Cleveland not winning a championship was in Lebron. Lebron demanded the ball at the end of every game instead of playing basketball the way it is supposed to be played.LIKE A TEAM SPORT! Mike Brown was just Lebrons whipping boy. Lebron was telling everyone what to do when he didn't have the knowledge to do so. And everyone did whatever he said. He didn't give anyone any respect. His ego wouldn't let him. A great basketball player doesn't win championships. A great team does. Now you will see the Cavs play like a team. Lebron has let fame go to his head has a lot to learn about life. Every spoiled kid I have ever known no matter how much money they have has always had that point in their life where they fall and experience that rude awakening where they realize that life is not all about them. That will happen in Miami this year. Mark my words. The people of Cleveland don't hate Lebron for leaving they just don't like the way he did it. I; for one, after seeing his true colors am glad he is no longer a Cavalier. My idols are people with integrity and class. People who admit their mistakes and grow as a human beings while helping others do the same. And none of those aspects have anything to due with money. Lebron's main goal has always been to be the wealthiest athlete. But it doesn't matter what you do in life it is how you go about doing it that really matters. That is what people will remember you by.

Please..........People don't hate Lebron for what he did it was how he went about doing it. And the Cavs got him plenty of talent and he was as much to blame for choking in the playoffs. Yes it was said that the "decision" was for charity but that was bull. It only raised 3mil. Lebron flushes more than that down the toilet. He could have donated 10mil and properly left Cleveland with class and respect but chose feed his ego instead. The problem with winning championships in Cleveland stems to Lebron. The coach they had at the time was nothing but Lebron's whipping boy. The coach and the team did whatever Lebron wanted because he had too much power and not enough b-ball knowledge at his young age. What made Jordan and Magic and Bird great was they had integrity. They wanted to win a championship for their cities they played in and in turn get a ring for themselves. Lebron only cares about getting a championship for himself. The same goes for his gold medal. He already got one so I doubt he ever plays for USA ever again. He made the mistake of thinking everyone in Cleveland went to the games to see him. He forgot that most of them were all Cavs fans before he even got there. Eventually Miami will see his true colors too. He is a spoiled , selfish, egotistical kid who still has a lot to learn about real life.

I am also in a weird predicament.  As a Laker fan I have never cheered for the Celtics, but here I am pulling for them to knock off the Heat.  Very weird sensation.

Thank you for sharing your comments.  I live in Orlando area and was around from the beginning and watching pro basketball for years and following the Celtics/Lakers for decades.  I knew the problem with Shaq leaving.  It has taken 15 years to get back to contender. CLeveland may never get back.

The main response is to your observation in game 5.  He quit!!!!!  No one wants to talk about that.  Flat gave up!
Bird, Magic, Jordan, Kobe never would have........

and we have to listen to the self proclaimed marketing machine "the King"  this may drive me away from Pro basketball because all we can see is the three amigos....ESPN carring practice give me a break.

I have never rooted for Lakers, go Magic, Celtics, Lakers or anyone else..

The greatest players of all time stayed with one team and won their championships with one team.  Yeah, you can say Garnett and Shaq ran away because they could not shoulder the load as the main guy.  Even in LA, Shaq was dominant, but even he deferred to Kobe as the greatest player he had ever played with.  As far as Shaq is concerned, he is now a joke.  What is that six or seven teams he has played with.  He is not even taken seriously anymore because he has ran from team to team trying to hook up with a contender.    LBJ will be forever tainted because he had to go to another superstar's team to win a championship.

You refer to two Eastern Conerence Finals and one NBA Final game.  Hmm, did he go quietly in those series'.  Did the Cavs win a finals game?  Nope, swept.  Would you like to talk about his lame appearance last season in Game 5 against the Celtics.  Would MJ, Kobe, Duncan, Bird, Magic, etc.. have quit like that in a playoff game.  The answer to that is NEVER!

Go ahead and defend him.  I am just stating facts.  The guy has shown no heart, is an egomaniac, and can't lead.
