A late-night rant about Boston Celtics power forward Kevin Garnett appeared on the Twitter account of Detroit Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva. Posted by Ben Golliver Between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Wednesday morning, multiple messages appeared on the Twitter feed of Detroit Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva, who goes by @CV31 on the social networking site.  Villanueva is a regular Twitter user, but these messages were different, as they were extremely negative and directed anger and frustration at Boston Celtics power forward Kevin Garnett. A first message read, "KG talks alot of crap, he's prob never been in a fight, I would love to get in a ring with him, I will expose him." Shortly thereafter, two additional messages appeared on the account, "KG called me a cancer patient, I'm pissed because, u know how many people died from cancer, and he's tossing it like it's a joke ...  I wouldn't even trip about that, but a cancer patient, I know way 2 many people who passed away from it, and I have a special place for those." Screenshots of the tweets are visible below. charlie-villanueva The Pistons played the Celtics on Tuesday night in Detroit, and Villaneuva and Garnett were both issued technical fouls after a minor confrontation late in the game. Villanueva has dealt with jokes about his appearance for years, as this 2006 SI.com article by Andrew Lawrence makes clear. Villanueva suffers from "a mysterious skin disease known as alopecia universalis," writes Lawrence, "which would slowly make him hairless." NBA players have had their Twitter accounts hacked in the past, most memorably Celtics guard Ray Allen, whose account had explicit messages posted on it. It's not immediately clear whether Villanueva was posting the messages or if his account was hacked, although shortly before the Garnett-related tweets were posted, the following message was posted: "Just landed in the ATL, we must win tomorrow, we will turn this around, I'm a believer." The Pistons, who are one of only two teams in the league that are 0-4 on the season, along with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Clippers, play the Hawks in Atlanta on Wednesday night.  Update (Wednesday): ESPN's Justin Verrier confirms that the tweets were written by Villanueva himself.

Charlie Villanueva Twitter rant on Kevin Garnett

Redwings 1969's comments sure shed light on what kind of person he is! We dont even know if this is the truth or not. You dont know what was said, or were you there on the court? No. Were you there when Charlie posted that? No. It might not even be him! People hack Twitter all the time. And in the end, even if KG did say that, 2 wrongs do not make a right. Finally, why would you wish harm on somebody when you were just saying you had friends die from cancer? Seems like you are just ranting without kowing all the facts first.

Sad state of affairs when anyone stoops to those levels. KG should be ashamed of himself. He has turned into one the most foulmouthed, egotistical players in the league. He used to be such a bright part of the association when he played in Minnesota but the big time in Boston has gone to his head. It would be nice to see someone in the league put him on his backside the next time he goes to the hoop...and even nicer to see nobody defend him so he gets the message.

Fact one -- you will NEVER remove trash talk from professional sports.  What makes many of these players physically and mentally tough enough to endure professional athletics is being able to shut out distractions, no matter how low-class or out of bounds they are.  Kevin Garnett is doing nothing new or all that creative.  However, if it put Charlie Villanueva off his game, Garnett succeeded.

I've lost multiple family members to cancer and it still hurts to this day.  But I didn't feel a thing about what Garnett said and didn't come close to taking it personally or to the heart.  Villanueva, suck it up and take it out on Garnett's team on the court.  Don't cry like a little child to Twitter looking for sympathy or generating hate for Garnett.  If that rattled you, you're as soft as been written by sportwriters.  Toughen up, big boy!

Love KG, but not exactly sure he should be cracking on anyone for being hairless - KG doesn't exactly have the Tom Brady locks or the Varejao mop or the Wallace 'fro himself.

It'll never happen, but I think any trash talking overheard by the officials should be whistled as a technical foul for taunting. It would do more to clean up the game than the new policy of whistling players for technicals for just giving the refs a dirty look when they make an obviously bad call.
That should happen and I hope and pray it does happen. Why not?  Players can't yell at refs and they can't yell at fans. Why are they allowed to be unprofessional and trash talk like they do?  Doesn't make sense.

They'll force NBA players coming off a plain or from a hotel entering an arena to be dressed nice and no longer allow ipods when the media is around because they want professionalism.  Yet they allow trash talking that revolves around cancer patients?

No way.... that's just stupid.

WAAHHHH. everyone knows KG talks smack. but that is his freedom of speech.
No. There is no such thing as freedom of speech in the NBA sir.  Your constitution is null and void if you're an NBA player on the court.

The league ( k.g's employer) decides what he can or can't say and when he can or can't speak.   Like it or not, that's how it is.. live with it.

If there was this so called freedom of speech you speak of then coaches could complain publicly about refs without being fined.  Players could complain to refs without getting a technical foul.  Players could swear at fans whenever they want.  I could go on and on and on but I won't waste my time with an internet wannabe tough guy like you.

Making fun of cancer patients is ok with you ? I guess you've never lost anybody to cancer... I know I have and it flat out sucks.  No cancer jokes are allowed ... only losers hiding behind keyboards make them.  Losers like you.

I hope the next time the Pistons play the Celtics and Garnett goes up for a layup somebody smashes him to the floor. Cuts his legs out from under him and watches him fall about 10 feet onto his back.  Hopefully Garnett gets hurt and pays for saying crap like that.

I almost never hope a player gets injured, but anybody that says what he says deserves it.. it's called karma.  I hope his time comes....

Unfortunately, trash talking has become standard fair in professional sports, especially the NBA where players are always in very close proximity to opponents. It's even spread to college and high school sports. Garnett is one of the worst (best?) offenders, but I think this one (if true) crossed the line and exhibited very poor taste, even for Garnett. At least Garnett apparently didn't mention Villanueva's mother or sister or wife or child (or maybe Villanueva just didn't take offense at those comments). It'll never happen, but I think any trash talking overheard by the officials should be whistled as a technical foul for taunting. It would do more to clean up the game than the new policy of whistling players for technicals for just giving the refs a dirty look when they make an obviously bad call.

I would love to know exactly when and where garnett said this to him. apparently villanueva is a tough guy, and if he said this to his face im sure, based on the way he made it sound, he wouldve done something about it. yes i know many people who've died from cancer too, and no they dont all lose their hair. even if he said this who cares, your a competitve athlete and anger sparks at every moment, ive heard much worse. wah wah is the right way to put it. start playing basketball a little better and stop complaining so much
