I don't know what's worse. Extending an invitation to the tactless LeBron fan that invaded a Cleveland Indians game or rescinding his invitation after the story became public.
Because that's what the Heat did.
Matthew Bellamy got famous for about five minutes because he wore a LeBron Heat jersey to an Indians game a few days after "The Decision" and then was escorted out by security because amazingly, the Clevelanders weren't nice to him. The Heat extended him an invitation to bring his annoying talents to South Beach on their dime and take in a game as their new super fan. Except now they aren't.
A report on ESPN.com says that the Heat are no longer extending an invitation to Bellamy. "An invitation was prematurely extended to [Bellamy] prior to the approval process being completed," according to a Heat team statement released Thursday night. "Once management became aware of this, it was decided that this is not something we wanted to do."
Or once management saw some of the negative press they were getting, they decided not to do it. I said the Heat bringing an obnoxious, crass fan to a game for free was very Miami Heat-ish. It fit their new villian persona well. But thinking about PR first and then turning it into a mess? Yeah, come to think of it, that really fits the team better.
