KG calls Charlie Villanueva "a nobody"

Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett called Detroit Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva "a nobody" on Friday night. Posted by Ben Golliverkevin-garnett Welcome back to the latest installment of the Thirty Years War of Words.  That's right: another post about the back-and-forth squabbling between Detroit Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva and Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett that began when Villanueva took to Twitter to accuse Garnett of calling him a "cancer patient." To quickly recap the week's events.
  • Early Wednesday morning, Villanueva posted multiple messages on his Twitter account claiming that Garnett insulted him by calling him a "cancer patient" during a Pistons/Celtics game on Tuesday night.
  • On Wednesday, Denver Nuggets coach George Karl, a cancer survivor, expressed disapproval for the alleged comments.
  • On Thursday, Celtics president Danny Ainge defended Garnett, saying he wouldn't make such an insensitive statement and calling Villanueva a self-promoter
At that point, everyone was sticking to his story. Villanueva didn't budge and neither did Garnett. Everyone assumed it was time to move on.  That is, until Friday night, when ESPNBoston.com quoted Garnett on Twitter saying the following about Charlie Villanueva: "He's a nobody. I'm not paying attention to nobodies any more." Garnett hasn't said much that I've agreed with during this episode, but I think he finally stumbled onto an insult that's difficult to dispute. Villanueva, a massively-overpaid and overrated player on one of the league's worst teams, is, in fact, a nobody in the NBA. He wasn't worth Garnett's time during the initial confrontation and he certainly hasn't been worth all the hot air since. While Villanueva is a nobody in the NBA, he is still a person. As such, he deserved a modicum of decency given the sensitivity that goes with a rare skin condition that has led to verbal abuse throughout his life. So while it's unlikely Garnett will enroll in sensitivity training any time soon, his refusal to drop the situation reveals a basic discomfort with how it played out.  Perhaps then, in an ironic twist, Garnett now realizes that his trash talking of a "nobody" wasn't worth his own time in the first place. Hopefully this saga will help harness some of KG's vitriol in the future, serving as a lesson that over-the-top trash talk can come with a public price that's simply not worth paying. That would be a huge win for the rest of us.

KG calls Charlie Villanueva "a nobody"

Wow! Let's white-wash, homogenize, and neuter basketball until thgere's nothing interesting left to it. The sports arena is where I heard my first "f" word. It's where grown men compete in the only honest test physical skill left in this world that doesn't involve actual warfare. If you want the niceties of your fenced-in, gated community, crystal skyscraper world - go and watch your golf or figure skating. This is basketball! The only place left where players reflect the true expression of the street, the ivory tower of the University, and today's global village. The common language among all these players is trash talk. Real basketball fans know what the game is about - that's why coaches are universally in agreement that what's said on the basketball court stays on the basketball court.

KG calls Charlie Villanueva "a nobody"

since kg has been there in boston he relinquished his scoring ability and become their enforcer. jim rome (not a big rome fan though) already dogged kg by showing anthony peeler & a few others punchin & pushing kg with no response. while i like him stepping up in the enforcer role when he got there he has overrun the mouth at times (u can pretty much find a moment in each of their playoff series since he was in boston that there has been heated moments). he is not a ck mahorn or maurice lucas(rip) enforcer type in terms of bangin, talkin, backin it up. they may have to keep watch cause i'm sure when they get to motown there will be some heat on the court& in the stands with some people igniting another malic in the palace (anythings posssssiiibbbbbbblllllllle)

while kg's answer sounds dumb(i can see sayin cancer to team but the league....eh hard 2 buy)& of course doc&ainge will stick with him (this is spygate & (lets trade moss-have him act a fool to get waived& try to get him back wit the xtra pick) town), but in bball rough words have been a part of the game. not that callin cancer patient is cool but people in organized & outside ballers have said much worse to guys on their manhood, mamas, etc. charlie must not have learned the art of good trash talk. he needs a writer. kg is an easy mark to get back at. if you can't talk trash to kg...c'mon. the guy failed is SAT's miserably (u could start with his illiteracy). fresno (of course when tark was there) was gonna work their magic to slide him n2 school 4 a year - even more..he could go into a whole bit of how he uses kg cause he misspelled kevin garnett on his SAT... come on charlie.. get in the game & GET IN THE GAME

Can't believe that people, especially the press, is still talking about this crap. It's pretty simple guys, KG is known for trash talking and I'm sure during the game he said all those stupid crap to CV and rather than CV stood up to him by talking trash back, he decided to tell the whole world what KG said to him. KG was trying to get under his skin, which I'm sure he did and CV was hurt so he wants the world to know about his pain, end of the story. Now, can we get back to basketball. Btw, fyi, I am too a cancer survivor and do you really think I give a crap's s over trivial crap like this? I fought a battle and won and people are crying over who say what to whom. Plzzzzzzz.

All this talk of KG's supposed lack of morality or decency by the media is just plain self serving. The media just loves all the extra press they can report about and saying that in the future they hope he's learned a lesson is just a plain lie. The media will once again be like flies on honey ready to get on their high horse and cover the next great twitter story.

KG calls Charlie Villanueva "a nobody"

I used to go to a lot of T-Wolves games back in the day and I can say that KG will say anything to anyone at anytime.  He has no class and no comment is off limits to him.  He was a almost great player in his younger days but no more.  He still has the occasional excellent game but for the most part he is washed up.  Except his mouth, which obviously is still in a class of his own.  On top of all that, he may well be the dirtiest player in the league with the sharpest elbows and is not afraid to use them.  Like most bullies, he will run his pie hole but will never back it up with actions.  KG do us all a favor, take Bill Walton with you somewhere and shut the F--- up!

+1 on that comment. It's like a lot of people didn't notice his mouth, etc., but now they do since he is in the East and on a team with more exposure. I can't question KG's heart and work ethic. But if he did say what Charlie V claims, as a Boston fan, I'm VERY disappointed. There's no excuse for that.
