Monta's back injury is 'not serious'

Monday night, Monta Ellis took a weird, awkward fall against Toronto. He appeared to jam his back if that's possible by bending backwards in a strange way. He stayed on the floor for an extended period of time, appearing to be in legitimate pain.

He was taken off and didn't return to the game. He stayed in Toronto Monday night following the game and had some X-rays to see if any damage was done. But Ken Berger of CBSSports.com passes along that according to a source, Monta's injury is "not serious" and is being classified as a back strain.

A sigh of relief for the Warriors for sure, who have started the season 5-2 behind excellent backcourt play from the league's leading scorer Ellis and Stephen Curry. As to if Ellis will play Wednesday against the Knicks is up in the air still.

UPDATE: Via a press release, X-rays and CT scan show no structural damage on Warriors guard Monta Ellis' injured back. He is now in New York and is listed as day-to-day.

They would probably start Reggie Williams, who I like, but I prefer him coming off the bench, not as a starter. Bell would probably back up Reggie. Bell is playing good defense, but his shooting his horrible. If Monta is out for any length of time, it obviously would hurt the Warriors. Let's hope that isn't the case.

What would Golden State do if he was out? I never thought I'd see the day Charlie Bell became a starter again.

Agreed - Thank God this doesn't appear as serious as it looked...We're off to a great start - losing Monta would be a disaster, especially with no legit backup.
