Miami Heat forward LeBron James says he is playing too many minutes. Posted by Ben Golliver
heat-stroke
In the aftermath of a convincing loss to the Boston Celtics on Thursday night, Heat forward LeBron James, who nearly had a triple-double and was the only Heat player to really show up, told reporters that he is playing too many minutes, according to Yahoo! Sports.
“For myself, 44 minutes is too much,” James declared. “I think Coach Spo knows that. Forty minutes for D-Wade is too much. We have to have as much energy as we can to finish games out.”
"Coach Spo," of course, is Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, who dug into his team at halftime, saying the Heat needed to "let go of your ego" during the second half.   While 44 minutes is too many for any NBA player to be playing in November, the timing of James' comments is tough for Spoelstra, who is beginning to hear whispers about his job security with the Heat beginning the season with a disappointing 5-4 record. Spoelstra certainly would prefer that any statements about playing time or coaching decisions be made privately, as would any coach.  James isn't the first all star to make this type of comment already in the young season, as Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy told reporters this week that he too would like to play less minutes to relieve swelling on his left knee. But the stakes are much higher in Miami than they are in Portland, with the media attention magnifying every statement to a national level instantaneously.  The bigger issue for Spoelstra: Why is he being forced to rely so heavily on James and is there a feasible workaround? Without Mike Miller until at least Christmas, and with disappointing recent efforts from guard Dwyane Wade and forward Chris Bosh, it's no wonder Spoelstra has turned to James, arguably the most reliable producer in the NBA.  Longterm, that is not a winning strategy. James proved in Cleveland that there is a limit to the burden he can carry. Indeed, that's why he signed up with the Heat in the first place. Unfortunately for Miami, what we're witnessing in James' grumbling is a by-product of the Heat getting exposed for their lack of depth. Outside of the big three, the roster is stacked with replacement-level or worse performers who can't capably handle much more than spot duty at this juncture.  While the Heat haven't reached a crisis point yet, lack of depth is going to be an underlying issue from now until the playoffs. That James is making it known that he doesn't want to shoulder the burden of this problem so clearly and so early in the season is not the most reassuring sign for Heat fans.  Mike Miller can't get back soon enough.

Lebron James says he's playing too many minutes

Lebron stated an OBVIOUS fact - 44 minutes PER game (not in A but PER game) is too many.  Then he stated another OBVIOUS fact - Coach Spo knows that 44 minutes a game is too many for him to play consistently.

The assumption here is that there are inteligent readers out there and fans out there, but he forgets that fans (apparently) are more guided by emotion than inteligence, and so we get people jumping on him for everything.

Well as someone stated intelligence has 2 l's. So i guess that puts you in the same class as us readers who jump on Lebron for whatever he says.

. And after 10, yes 10 games he is still only averaging 37.7 minutes. After 9 games it was 37.5 minutes he averaged. Somehow, somewhere, I as well as others and CBS included, must have bad math skills according to Lebron's statement of averaging 44 minutes per game.

There is 48 minutes in a NBA game. He is now averaging 37.7. That means he is sitting for 10.3 minutes per game. One quarter is 12 minutes long. So he is averaging just over 3 quarters in a game.

Now, I did ask my boss if I could workout deal similiar to Lebron's.  I figure 6 hours and some change was equivalent to Lebron's average. He said "you know where the front door is located, right?" He just laughed and walked away.

Regular SeasonDateOpp.Result / TimeRecordPts LeadersAst LeadersReb Leaders Dwayne Wade has led the Heat in 7 out of 10 games this year. The Heat went 5-2. One win was against Orlando, and the loss was in overtime. LeBron James led the Heat in scoring three games this year. They went 1-2, with both losses to Boston. He can't beat Boston.
In addition, Lebron has led the team in assists in nine games this year... as a shooting forward.
He shoudn't be tired because Wade's been carrying the team. The scorer carries the team, not the passer. LeFraud.

So when he says its too early to be playing this many min. in the beginning of this season. So rest him in the 3rd so he has something left in the tank so he can do what he does after that. Wade and Bosh need to step up and I won't be letting players younger stronger and faSTER TO SHOW ME UP BYUT GIVE THIS GUYS A BREAK AND WE WILL SEE IF THE cELTICS,lAKERS AND oRLANDO CAN BEST US IN ANOTHER COUPLE OF WEEKS WHO IS CRYING NOW

Lebron James says he's playing too many minutes

Although I have no problem with the big three getting together, I as well as most of the world found it pathetic just how they orchestrated the triumverete! I do really feel these three egomaniacs will not b all playing for Miami in a few years. They will not win the East nor likley ever win a championship! If you logically look at the East they are somewhere 3-5 with Boston, Orlando, Chicago, Miami clearly having the most over all talent. I am not a Bulls fan but the Bulls almost beat Boston last year in one of the most impressive playoff series we have ever seen. They are loaded!! With Boozer back there is not a more talented team in the East. Quick comparison........you throw out Rose, Brewer, Boozer, Deng, and Noah verse Wade, Miller, Labron, Bosh, and junk...add the Bulls crazy depth, better coach and better energy the Bulls in my opinion will fight for top spot in the East as the year progress. My prediction is Boston, Bulls, Orlando, Miami. The best thing for the NBA is for Miami to go bust. It will be fun to watch the great king go down the tubes!! lol

Lebron James says he's playing too many minutes

Wow, LeBron lets hear some more. I don't know about ya'll, but in high school, I trained as hard as I could so I would never be tired and have to come out of games. He can't play 44 minutes? He needs to earn his $100 million and play the whole game if asked to. Besides, its not like the Heat have anyone else talented outside of the big three. This is typical "I'm going to dissapear in thr 4th quarter" Lebron. What a joke.

Lebron James says he's playing too many minutes

Poor LeBron, did they expect him to play a lot just because he gets paid a lot. Like many these days, he'd like to make the big money without having to actualy do the work. Suck it up, big guy. Stop working on your dance steps and conserve energy. Try not using to much energy whining.
